| In just five workdays during a two month period in 2001, Hagerman area residents created a pretty little pocket park in their community. Using Transportation Enhancement funds obtained through an Idaho Department of Lands Community Forestry grant and cash match from the Hagerman Revitalization Committee they transformed a weed covered lot next to the City's RV Sanitation Station into a multi-purpose picnic, visitor orientation, recycling, sit-and-visit-a-spell, tree lined, green oasis that invites travelers to stop and visit. In 2002 with matching funds provided by the Chamber of Commerce and a grant obtained through the Idaho Community Foundation, a concrete pad was poured and park furniture purchased. The trees were small when planted but a drip irrigation system has ensured that they have been properly watered and in a just a few years they have almost doubled in height. The RV facility and recycling bins will soon be screened by the trees and shrubs and the picnic spot will be bounded by colorful trees and shrubs. Hagerman folks can be proud of the more than 500 volunteer hours and local business support that went into this project. The City has officially name the site Volunteer Park. This project is the first in what we hope will be a long line of projects that will result in an exciting revitalization of our community. Below is a picture of the little park as it looked in 2004. |
