Projects

Blues in the Park -  IDEA's main annual event is "Blues in the Park" held at the Billingsley Creek Unit of the Thousand Springs State Park. The event generates customers for local businesses and promotes the community and the local State Park. "Blues in the Park" gets bigger and better every year. If you would like more information about this year's event visit our Blues page or send us an email and we'll add you to our event mailing list.

Idaho's Bounty -  This is a project that will promote local food crop production, educate consumers about the health benefits of fresh local foods, educate producers about growing and marketing their products and facilitate establishment of a local food marketing and distribution cooperative.

Thousand Springs Scenic Byway Improvements -  IDEA, as the Community's Gem Committee actively participate on the local scenic byway committee and works with other stakeholders along the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway to implement the Corridor Management Plan. We are particularly interested in helping to design and fund interpretive signing and recreation opportunity development projects in our area.

Thousand Springs State Park -  IDEA will continue to help the State Park Manager implement the recently complete general management plan for the Billingsley Creek Unit of the Thousand Springs State Park.

NWCDI Scholarship -  Providing skills, teaching processes and techniques and fostering networking among community leaders are some of the objectives of the Northwest Community Development Institute held each July in Boise. NWCDI graduates attest to the value of the program and say that communities with leaders who have completed the 3-year course have a much better chance of surviving and prospering in these challenging times. In an effort to support "capacity building" for its community leaders, Hagerman IDEA, Inc., has set up a 3-year, $500 annual challenge scholarship to cover lodging costs for a local leader who has been able to finance their tuition costs ($600) through other scholarships or sponsorships.

Gem Community Committee -  IDEA will continue to serve as Hagerman's Gem Community Committee and work to implement the goals and objectives in the Gem Community Action Plan.

Cooperation Among Local, State and Federal Agencies and Organizations -  Building on the Cooperation in Planning agreement completed in 2006 we will support local planning effort to define a vision of the future for our area and seek opportunities for collaboration and cooperation among the Federal, State and local agencies and entities in our area to better and more efficiently serve our citizens and our visitors.

Environmental Education -  IDEA has pledged volunteer and financial support to the Hagerman Elementary School and Thousand Springs State Park to help develop a greenhouse and a native plant and site revegetation project based at the Billingsley Creek Unit.

Support for Other Community Entities and Initiatives -  IDEA seeks opportunities to work with and support other local not for profit organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, Youth Athletics, Senior Center, American Legion, Televisions Translator District and Fossil Council.

Shared Visitor Center/City Hall/Library -  IDEA supports the effort to secure funding to construct a municipal center that might provide office and public contact space for a Visitor Center, Public Library, City Services, local non-profits and possibly even office space for qualifying agencies.

Accomplishments

City Entrance Signs -  IDEA has installed a sign on the north end of Hagerman and, thanks to a grant from the First Federal Foundation will complete landscaping around that sign and will install a matchinig entrance sign on the south entrance to the city in 2008.

Public Parking -  IDEA facilitated a public parking lot project in the center of the city in conjunction with construction of a new market. This public/private collaboration was completed in August 2003. The project resulted in removal of a number of unsafe old buildings, construction of a new grocery store, creation of jobs and a new city-owned public parking lot in the central block of Hagerman which benefits residents and visitors alike by providing parking for the City Offices, the Hagerman Historical Society Museum and all of the surrounding downtown businesses.

Thousand Springs Scenic Byway -  IDEA facilitated an agreement among the Hagerman Valley and Bliss Chambers of Commerce and the City of Bliss which allowed the Hagerman Valley Chamber to partner with the the South Central Idaho Tourism and Recreation Development Association, using State tourism grant fund to purchase a new sign for the billboard that advertises the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway. IDEA also worked with the Idaho Transportation Department and SCITRDA to develop the new Byway logo signs and visitor orientation map boards that have been placed along the Byway
